Nuts and Bolts

There are no prerequisites for the class (beginners are welcome but be aware that the lectures are fast-paced), but we do suggest that you have a camera capable of MANUAL adjustments, which means you can adjust shutter speed and lens opening, sometimes overriding what the camera suggests. Just about any good-quality camera equipment will do, whether it's digital, 35mm or larger format. You can take the class two times for credit.

Students are responsible for all trip expenses including transportation (we encourage carpooling), accommodations (which range from free campgrounds to motels [make reservations EARLY as Yosemite is always a busy place]), food (bring your own or eat at any of the many restaurants in the area) and film/developing. We do not have a photo lab on the premises at El Dorado Center, but you will be given some resources for doing your own processing or out-sourcing your work.

(Course Code 31251)

This class runs from March 17 through May 14, with a three-day field trip to the Yosemite area on May 8-10.

Yosemite is one of the most beautiful and most photographed locales on the planet. We will explore standard image possibilities as well as more subtle details.

Details are very much in the planning stages, but we likely will divide into students who prefer to stay in hotels and students who wish to camp. We will meet at strategic places in the Yosemite Valley.
