A Place of Magic
Nancy Siegler of Cameron Park is a breast cancer survivor. To celebrate her survival, she has created a huge, joyful garden of sunflowers. Dozens of varieties of yellow, orange and even red sunflowers grow over ten feet high in a huge patch behind her barn. For the last couple of years, KCRA-TV has featured this remarkable garden. Bees enjoy the nectar, while we enjoy the almost overwhelming beauty.
Nancy's barn, immediately adjacent to the flowers, is perfectly set up for a workshop of this sort. We'll spend a couple of hours here reviewing techniques and equipment for great macro photography—including a special Photoshop technique for enhancing depth of field—and then we'll step a few feet outside to celebrate these beautiful flowers with our cameras, lingering into "magic light" time. Those photographers who wish may contribute a few photos afterward to an online album for viewing and critiquing, since logistics don't permit much critiquing on-site.
