Stairways have always proved a great photographic subject. These stone steps are at Sorensen's Resort. Subtle special effects added using PhotoTools 2.6.
Hope Valley
October 15; $99 includes lunch at Sorensen's
We had hope to schedule this for October 8, but a recent check of fall colors in Hope Valley shows that nearly all the leaves are still green. So we've moved the date to the 15th. We'll be spending a LOOONG day amid what are probably the most spectacular fall colors in Northern California. This unspoiled Sierra paradise near Carson Pass on Highway 88 features hillsides of golden aspens and depending on the weather, perhaps a dusting of snow on the rugged peaks that surround the valley. We'll start our morning at 8 a.m. at one of my favorite spots in the Carson Pass area, Woods Lake, and perhaps catch the morning mists on the water. We'll then work slowly east into Hope Valley itself. I will take you to my “secret” spot, a picturesque meadow of twisted aspens and huge black rocks and we'll visit other favorite spots. Limited to ten people, all skill levels welcome. From Sorensen's, we'll work our way back west through Hope Valley, perhaps visit some spots on Blue Lake Road and finish once again at Woods Lake, which by afternoon will have a completely different ambiance because of the lighting.Recently there has been a lot of construction on Highway 88. I will be checking with Caltrans regarding their schedule and may alter plans if necessary.
Because of the early hour, you may want to stay at Sorensen's Resort or camp on your own. The resort will fill fast because this is their peak time of year.
Bring layered clothing, camera, camera manual, lots of cards and extra batteries, and perhaps a tripod.
