Hundreds of books are available on photography and digital imaging. Finding the best ones can be difficult. Try your library first for lots of photography books. You'll find lots of material, and besides all that, our libraries need your support. In addition, many great books are available from Amazon.com, world's largest on-line book dealer. Great discounts are often available. On this page I list a few favorite books along with a search engine in case you don't find what you want from my selection of favorites.

The National Geographic Photography Field Guide was Betty Sederquist's class text for many years. The second edition is now out. In simple language, this book offers an all-around and thorough introduction to photography.

Scott Kelby writes clearly and with humor about the complicated subject of Photoshop in a book geared toward photographers. Although this book is not a comprehensive look at Photoshop CS, there are nevertheless some cool and easy tricks here, especially if you do portraiture.

Co-authors David Blatner and Bruce Fraser have written the classic, definitive reference book on Photoshop. This edition provides in-depth, "under-the-hood" looks at this complicated software and has been the textbook for advanced Photoshop classes. Strongly recommended.

Author Ben Willmore offers an in-depth, creative look at Photoshop CS. The section on layer blending modes is superb. This is one of the better books out there.

| Scott Kelby does it again with another book on gee-whiz Photoshop CS techniques. Although not as comprehensive as The Photoshop CS book (left), there is still lots of great stuff. This book is more oriented to graphic designers.

I've not read this book, but I really trust B. Moose Peterson, who is very practical, hands-on, and my students tell me, a "really nice guy," but the book also goes beyond basic material.
