Alaska 2009: A Time for Magic
Every year in Southeast Alaska is so different. This was the year of warm temperatures, smoky skies and truly amazing bears and whales. We began our eight-day journey in Wrangell, spending half a day detouring by fast-moving jetboat up the mighty Stikine River before boarding the Delphinus for our journey to the mouth of Anan Creek. From there, we headed north through the Wrangell Narrows, stopping in Petersburg for a couple of hours. Then north to Frederick Sound, Kake, and the beautiful Brothers Islands. Finally, we made our way to Pack Creek, and on the last day detoured to mighty grounded icebergs at the mouth of Tracy Arm before docking in Juneau.

The cute little cub pictured above was exploring a salmon stream in the town of Kake. He was almost too close for telephoto camera lenses.
