Quiet Alaska Moments

Bears and whales are a big part of our Alaska adventures, but sometimes the little things are even more memorable. Here is a sampling.
An evening walk at Berg Bay south of Wrangell turns up this ancient log and flower.

In July and August, blueberries and huckleberries are everywhere. They make a flavorful addition to morning pancakes.

Occasionally(but not on this trip), an earth-shaking roar of a bear shatters the shaded calm of this temperate rainforest and reminds us that this is not a benign wilderness. Here, false hellebore blossoms reach for the light.
